It was so good to see so many members after the week of turbulent weather of wind, snow and freezing temperatures. The hall was lovely and warm and the committee and helpers worked hard to set it up ready for our Open Day morning.

The exhibition area had a variety of beautiful work on display.

Sylvia manned the shop as usual, as well as demonstrating free style canvas work and Irene and Zena organised the sale of items made by members.Several ladies had also agreed to demonstrate a variety of techniques. Sandie showed visitors how to make stumpwork sheep, Mary demonstrated her beautiful machine embroidery on backgrounds of painted silk flowers, Brenda felted beads, Pat demonstrated silk paper making and Pam showed how to use the embellisher giving members and visitors a chance to have a go. The atmosphere was certainly industrious.
Margaret had brought the finished piece entitled ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, which she displayed on its own table to be admired by everyone.
Yvonne displayed the cushions she had designed to celebrate 70 years of twinning between Preston and Ahlemo. Making the cushions had been a real team effort to get them finished by Yvonne, Edwina and Dee. These were presented to Derek Smith and Pam Potter, members of the twinning committee.
You can learn more about both of these projects in the near future by clicking on the ‘Other News’ tab.

It was so lovely to have some visitors who braved the weather – some old friends Jack Morton and his daughter as well as our NW regional chair Sue Chisnall and Nicky Robertson chair of the Parbold branch. Several ladies from other nearby guilds also visited and it was good to know that the effort of having the Open day advertised on BBC Radio Lancashire had also paid off. Maybe we will have some new members joining us soon.

Refreshments of tea, coffee, delicious cakes and biscuits kindly donated by the committee were very welcome, not only by our visitors but by our own members too.

The raffle was organised by Rosie and Dorothy sold tickets for her lovely Easter embroidered tablecloth, the proceeds of which she donated to ‘Vine House’. Beryl was delighted to win the tablecloth.

As the morning came to an end it drifted rather nicely into a stitch and chat session and by 3:00pm the whole day came to an end.
