| After the notices Gina introduced our tutor for the day, Sue. Sue is one of our own members and has been a member of the Embroiderers' Guild for twenty years, so we felt we were definitely in good hands for the day. |

No April fools today, just members ready to stitch and chat throughout the day. We had several visitors as well, eager to see what our group has to offer. Hopefully they will be welcomed, befriended and inspired and want to join us. Sue introduced us to her work; some from eighteen years ago and some of her more recent pieces. All beautifully stitched with a range of colours and designs. Several pieces were from kits and others from ‘Stitch’ Magazine. Sue demonstrated how to transfer our designs using a light box attached to her computer. We were very impressed with this piece of kit. She also gave us a list of suppliers which can be found on the internet. Look under the ‘links’ tab for these. As we began to stitch our designs Sue kept us on track by demonstrating some of the many stitches we could use from Blanket stitch, Split stitch, Coral stitch and Wrapped Pinwheels. Some of us used crewel wool, others used stranded embroidery thread. Sue also explained using both types of thread in our pieces is quite acceptable as is using cotton for the background rather than the more traditional linen. The atmosphere throughout the day was calm and relaxing. Members chatted and stitched as did the ladies in the back room. What a variety of work was being stitched by them as usual! By the end of the day we had progressed and completed some of our designs and we certainly were inspired to make sure they were finished. Sylvia spoke on our behalf to thank Sue for a lovely day showing us the craft of ‘Traditional Embroidery’ and for her generosity in providing us with the fabric for our work. We all agreed it had been a lovely day.
