Sandie is to be our new programme secretary and thanks were given to Gina for all she has done in recent years in this role. Stephanie also kindly agreed to continue running the library. I am sure you will once again, all wish to give thanks to the current officers and committee members for their continued work in helping to make our Preston group such a vibrant and active branch of The Embroiderers’ Guild.
This month, our meeting began with the AGM. Our Chair Dee gave her annual report after which, the treasurer’s report was read out, followed by elections and re-elections for the forthcoming year. This month, we were running the annual Gertrude Goodenough competition where members can bring a piece they have made, to enter into the competition. Below are the photographs of the entries. There were three prizes. The completed pieces from the day school with Maggie Hickman-Smith on making dolls, where displayed, and I am sure you will all agree how fabulous they look! You may remember from last month that some of our members took away small sections of a photograph to stitch, organised by Margaret. When all 24 squares have been completed, they will depict ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ for an event being held by the Samaritans and here are the finished pieces so far. It’s amazing how wonderful our members stitching skills have been, as their pieces look so good against the photograph that they have interpreted to their own design. In the afternoon, we had stitch and chat time, where members brought a current project they are working on. Sometimes it is quite nice when we have this type of afternoon, as it’s gives us time to get to know our new members better and look at the various techniques being used by everyone. We had such a lovely time with of course, lots of cups of tea and coffee! It was great to have a catch up with everyone and we now look forward to our November meeting, where several members will be holding mini workshops teaching various techniques, for us to all to try. C.P.
